Please join us for Freedom Center Tours! They will be held on Thursday evening before the show, from 5 pm – 7 pm and are free of charge. If you can make the time to tour this facility, please do! You will be amazed at what this group of volunteers has accomplished! The Freedom Center Tours will showcase the opportunities which are provided to area Veterans. The Veterans Freedom Center is an all-volunteer center for Veterans from the Tri-State area (Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin) to gather. They have an awesome shop area where Vets can go to learn scroll sawing and pen turning. They offer a crafts area where Vets can put together kits such as bird houses and whirly-gigs. They have an exercise room, a pool table and a kitchen area where Vets can get together to just hang out and talk. They provide supplies for all activities free of charge to the Vets. The Freedom Center is run independently and does not receive funding from state or federal sources – they carry on fundraisers year-round to pay for the center and their activities. The Dubuque area, as well as our scroll saw community, have been generous in providing support for this worthwhile cause. Although the founders of The Freedom Center keep a low profile and don’t seek recognition, it was started by a very dedicated group of guys who are committed to helping their fellow Vets—they are an awesome bunch!!!
The Freedom Center Volunteers also put in countless hours helping to plan, promote and pull together the Midwest Scroll Saw Trade Show. You will find them all around the Trade Show helping with everything from selling tickets at the entrance to organizing a program for the Friday evening dinner, to running the Scroll Saw Corral and Pen Turning areas. Be sure to thank them for their service to our country and for their willingness to help out fellow Veterans and our scroll saw community!
